I decided that my permanent observatory would not look like an observatory, but a garden shed as that part of my garden borders with the road.

There were no real plans, but I did initially make sure I had enough space to walk around the pier with telescope attached and this gave me the overall floor dimensions.
I did draw up small plans of all the various joints etc. so in theory all the pieces fitted together (sort of)!
Overall it took about 18 months to complete (as winter got in the way).

Looking back it’s well over-engineered and far heavier than it probably needs to be. The roof does require a bit of muscle to slide open.
If I built a second observatory, I would probably make the sides higher which would help with the wind.
